Boundless Learning: A School-wide Model for Diverse Learners CTE is collaborating with Centreville Middle School in Queen Anne’s County, Maryland, to implement Boundless Learning, a technology-supported educational model that promotes successful learning opportunities for students with disabilities in inclusive settings. The Boundless Learning model is being implemented in grade 6, and in classes in grades 7 and 8 that have a large number of students with disabilities. The goals of this project are to ensure that students with disabilities (a) have access to and succeed in the general curriculum; (b) can participate in appropriate and available extra-curricular activities; (c) receive positive behavioral interventions, supports, and services; and (d) are included in state and local assessments. The Boundless Learning System has five components:
To support the school during implementation, CTE has assigned a project facilitator who works closely with the principal and faculty to help the school prepare for the organizational change, technology-supported professional development, and instructional re-tooling necessary to support this broad-based implementation. The project facilitator also observes classes, monitors teachers’ proficiency with implementation, works with the School Improvement Team, and works as a change agent to ensure that the Boundless Learning program achieves its primary goal of delivering successful learning outcomes for students with disabilities, not just services. CTE conducts institutes and other professional development programs to teach educators about the Boundless Learning system. The intensive, hands-on program generally lasts 3 days, with long-term follow-up accomplished through an online learning community.
