Accessible Computer-Based Instructional Technology: Home

On December 4, 2001 the Maryland State Board of Education approved a new regulation concerning accessible technology-based instructional products. This regulation requires that a "public agency shall ensure that a request for bid, request for proposal, and local public agency guidelines for the selection and evaluation of technology-based instructional products used by student include the requirements governing equivalent access consistent with Subpart B, Technical Standards, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended."

As part of the effort to support local school system staff in supporting this regulation, the Maryland State Department of Education, in collaboration with the Johns Hopkins Center for Technology in Education (CTE), is sponsoring four regional workshops for district-level teams of personnel who are responsible for developing bids, for evaluating, selecting, and purchasing technology-based instructional materials, and for providing training within local school systems.

This site is intended to support the workshops created and administered by MSDE and CTE. Also, this site provides online resources to help guide local school systems in their implementation of this regulation.
