   Session 1 -- Activity 2

Activity 2 ~~ KWLL Chart (45 minutes)

Objective: Reflect on your current knowledge of the language development process.

Activity: Review the chart below. Begin by briefly recording what you already know about how children learn language under the "K" heading (What I Know). Then consider those areas of language development about which you know little. Record that information under the "W" (What I Want to Know) heading.

Note: Make sure to keep a copy of this chart. You will be instructed to complete the "L" (What I Learned) and "L" (What I Want to Learn) columns of this chart in Activity 3.

After filling in the "K" and "W" columns in the chart above, view the:

PowerPoint slide show on language development.

For Further Consideration: According to your own pre-existing knowledge, and what you learned by working through the PowerPoint slide show, what would you say are the major influences on language acquisition in the very early years of children's lives?

When you're finished, please proceed to Activity 3
