   Session 3 -- Activity 2

Activity 2 ~~ Read Alouds (2 hours 30 minutes)

Objective: Compare techniques for presenting a Read Aloud to primary children.

Activity: View "Teaching the Reader" and take notes on how the teacher conducts a Read Aloud lesson. Then read, "Engaging with Reading Through Interactive Read-Alouds" by Shelby Barrentine (The Reading Teacher, vol. 50, 1996, pp. 36-43.). In this article, Barrentine explains how interactive Read Alouds encourage children to verbally interact with the text, their classmates, and the teacher. Now spend a few minutes reflecting on the similarities and differences between the use of Read Alouds in the video and the article. Use the Venn Diagram to make your comparison.

When you're finished, please proceed to Activity 3
