   Session 4 -- Activity 3

Activity 3 ~~ Running Record PowerPoint
(30 minutes)

Objective: Learn how to create a Running Record.

Activity: Running records are observations of a child’s reading aloud that provide a picture of the skills and strategies a beginning reader uses. They are useful for assessing children in beginning reading as they learn to decode words.

View this Power Point presentation on Running Records.

Use what you learned from the PowerPoint presentation to make sense of the conventions for coding a child’s reading in the document entitled "Conventions". You may copy the text the child is reading and mark the codes on that sheet, or you may use a blank piece of paper.

When you're finished, please proceed to Activity 4.
