   Session 4 -- Activity 5

Taking & Analyzing a Running Record (2 hours 30 minutes)

Note: When you complete this assignment, save your work to submit to the course facilitator.

Objective: Take and analyze a Running Record with a child.

Activity: Find an instructional text of about 100 - 200 words (read with 90 - 94% accuracy). Use the Running Record Sheet to record, analyze, and interpret your results.

For Further Consideration:
Answer the following questions to assess your Running Record.

o Did I use the conventions for scoring?
o Did I enter the error ratio, the accuracy rate, and the self-correction ratio?
o Did I analyze the oral reading for meaning, structure, and visual cues?
o Did I consider the pattern of responses in my analysis?
o Did I use the procedure accurately?

If you responded "yes" to all five questions, you did a great job! If you had one error, reexamine your Running Record and make the necessary corrections. If you had more than one error, watch the Running Record Power Point presentation again and review both the convention and scoring systems.

Submit: Running Record Sheet. You should title this document "Session 4 Required Activity". Submit assignment to facilitator.

When you're finished, please proceed to Session 5 .
