Objective: Investigate the relationship between fluency and high-frequency words

Activity: Read, Every Child a Reader, Topic 4: High-Frequency Words and Fluency
Context: In this article, researchers present findings that suggest that approximately 300 high-frequency words account for 65% of the words found in texts. In addition, they present strategies to support fluency with the recognition of high-frequency words.

For Further Consideration: After reading the above-mentioned article, reflect on the children in your class who meet the fluency assessment criteria.
