   Session 6 -- Activity 8

Activity 8 ~~ Reading Process (15 minutes)

Objective: Compare your own practices with recommended actions to help students become active partners in the reading process.

Activity: Read Building an early reading process: Active from the start, by Askew & Fountas, pp.-126-138, The Reading Teacher, Volume 52, No. 2, October, 1998.

As you read the article, compare the practices discussed with the ones you use. Also, consider the degree of similarity between the students described in the article and the students with whom you are currently working.

Context: This article was selected to extend the discussion of comprehension to include actions that teachers can take. The authors focus on kindergarten and first grade.

This is the final activity in Session 6.

When you're finished, please proceed to Session 7.
