   Session 7 -- Activity 7

Activity 7 ~~ A Prioritized Plan for Motivation (30 minutes)

Note: When you complete this assignment, save your work to submit to the course facilitator.

Objective: Reflect on what you have learned in this course, and what you can implement.

Context: In this session you have explored the multiple dimensions of motivation as they applies to reading. As part of that exploration you completed the following activities:

Assessed a student (cognitive, learning styles). Activity 1
Created a list of 10 things you could do to be an explicit model. Activity 2
Developed a plan to create a book-rich classroom environment. Activity 3
Wrote an improvement plan for your classroom library. Activity 4
Thought about ways to encourage students to interact socially. Activity 5
Created a reading-related incentive program. Activity 6

Doing these exercises within the confines of a course allow you to practice and apply new ideas. In the reality of the busy classroom, it would be quite unlikely that a teacher could actually implement all of these actions. In order to end this session on motivation on a practical note, reflect on all of the things you learned and tried, and think about the things you might find the time to implement, and in what order.

Activity: Based on the strategies and techniques you learned about motivation, create an implementation plan for the year. Choose, in order, the number of initiatives you think you can realistically implement. You may want to include from 1 -3 items.

Submit: Implementation plan. You should title this assignment "Session 7 Required Activity". Submit assignment to facilitator.

Congratulations!!!

You have now completed the "Teaching the Reader" course. Be sure to submit all of your required assignments to the facilitator.
