   Overview for Session 2

In this session, you will build on what you learned about language acquisition in Session 1, while at the same time investigating more specific information related to strategies for teaching children how to read.

Included in this session are the stages of reading, phonemic awareness, phonics and word attack, and finally, sight vocabulary and word identification strategies.

Before you begin Activity 1, please be sure to review the other nine activities in this session--both to give yourself a sense of the time necessary to complete the session and to gain some context on the intended outcomes associated with each activity.
