   Overview for Session 7

In this session, you will look at an area of considerable importance in primary reading, motivation. Motivation is often taken for granted as a given or something that will automatically occur. Both of these unwarranted views often translate into little if any deliberate instructional action to develop, sustain, or increase the motivation. Initial and continued motivation is required to persevere, problem-solve and develop the necessary skills for fluent reading. Within this session you will not only have an opportunity to reflect on your own actions to motivate readers, but will be able to implement a variety of methods and techniques to motivate your students in reading. Please review all activities before going on to activity 2.

Before you begin working on Activity 1, be sure to review the activities and approximate times for this lesson.
