A. The Five Step Process to Establishing PBIS in Your School

As you have seen from session one, PBIS is NOT a program or a behavioral modification process. PBIS is a balanced integration of four key features:

1. Clearly defined and socially important outcomes for students and their families and teachers
2. Research-validated practices
3. Data-based decision making processes
4. Systems that support high fidelity implementations

A five-step implementation process has been developed for schools to follow as a way to operationalize these four key features. The five-step process looks like this:

We will be focusing on the first two steps in this training session. Central to this process is establishing structures and processed that increase the capacity of a school to adopt and sustain the use of relevant research-validated practices the address the unique characteristics and needs of individual schools. Much can be done by your school to improve school climate, maximize academic and social outcomes, and create safer school environments.

However, to do this, your school will have to work smarter in identifying important outcomes and implementing what you know works best in achieving these outcomes.
This session will ask you to participate in activities that allow you, your school, and your PBIS Team to “Work Smarter… Not Harder”.
