Question Eight:

Are the there identifiable or predictable trouble spots or high-risk locations?

Parking lots & stairwells:

Can you list some known school “trouble spots" in your district? What is being done to address the risk inherent in these areas? What is the potential for future incidents? Whose support would be instrumental in solving some of these problems? The following are some solutions to this key question.

Grounds:

Can you promote and gather support in the community to assist the school in keeping the grounds surrounding the school safe from vandalism or undesirables? What is your best approach in dealing with his potential threat?

Entry Areas:

What schools to you believe have problems because of pedestrian or car traffic jams? What schools can you identify that are at risk for drive-by crime? What can be done to maximize student protection and access to safety? What would it take to implement your ideas or find solutions that enhance student’s save learning environments? The following are some solutions to this key question.

Breezeways:

Identify the schools in your district that have breezeways. How safe are these areas? Can their safety be increased by lighting, surveillance cameras, or the presence of a staff member? Is school staff fully aware of the potential threat that these breezeways pose? The following are some solutions to this key question.

Bathrooms:

Are you aware of bathroom crime incidents in schools in your jurisdiction? Is the potential for repeat crime eliminated? Could a modification to the existing bathroom policy or structure reduce crime potential? What would it take to implement a modification? The following are some solutions to this key question.

Cafeterias:

What is your opinion about the awareness of the school community to the vulnerability of the school cafeteria? What can be done to promote more awareness and intervention planning without raising the level of threat? The following are some solutions to this key question.
