In order to be successful, a professional sports team must do several things. The team must know the rules of the game. The team must train and practice. The coach must recognize and utilize the skills and abilities of the individual players. A safe school environment is achieved in a similar manner. The School Administrative Team and the SRO must know school law and policy. The School Administrators must train and understand how to investigate and search. The Principal needs to know which individuals have the authority and ability to best address the situation at hand. School investigations and searches may seem to be complex. With an understanding of school law, a well-trained Administrative staff and the School Resource Officer will be successful in preserving a safe and effective learning environment.
