Promoting School Safety Through School Leadership: The Four Ps

Develop a Tool for the Evaluation of the Safety Plan:

Steps

  • In developing the Safety Plan Evaluation, a check list is suggested to simplify the evaluation. Included in the list could be items such as the following: Did the established chain of command work smoothly?
  • Did all persons in the leadership positions understand the expectations?
  • Were the appropriate assistance personnel called in a timely fashion?
  • Did the appropriate assistance personnel arrive at the school setting in a timely fashion?
  • Was the school or school area evacuated in a safe and orderly manner?
Were handicapped individuals given the assistance they required for the safe and calm evacuation of their areas?
  • Were district level administrators involved throughout the crisis situation?
  • If areas of need became apparent during the evaluation, have steps been taken to address the needs?
  • Was the debriefing process completed to meet the needs of the crisis participants?
