Community Policing Techniques Applied to Schools:

School as Community

A school is an excellent representation of a community unto itself. It typically has most of the elements that any city or town would have. There is a hierarchical structure, governing body, leaders, and followers. This is a perfect situation to allow an officer to apply community policing techniques in a more controlled environment. Comparing the school to a town would show the principal as the mayor, PTA/SGA as the council, teachers as the town employees and the students as the residents. Most of the same techniques and methods that would be used when implementing a community policing strategy in a town apply to the school environment.
