Being a Leader in Your School Community Tutorial

Introduction:

Student Pressures

Students today are faced with more pressures than ever before.

Parents and teachers put pressure on students to succeed academically and to be involved in school. Peers put pressure on each other to act and look a certain way. Some students feel pressure to succeed in sports by peers, parents and/or coaches. It is understandable that you might feel stressed out and overwhelmed from time to time. With so many people trying to tell you what to do it is difficult to know how to act. You might not even know why you are acting the way that you are. If you don’t feel pressured and overwhelmed that is great. No matter what your situation is, would you like some models to become a more effective positive student leader?

Do you feel overwhelmed by your life?
Do you feel pressure from your parents and teachers to do well in school and from your friends to be cool? Do you feel pressure by your counselor to pick the right college? Do you feel pressure by a coach to excel in sports?

It would take some kind of superhuman being to satisfy everyone all of the time. It is possible however to be true to yourself, be a good friend and be a responsible member of your school community all at the same time. All of these things added together make a student who is a personally responsible leader in their school community.
