School Community:
Getting Involved in Your School
Another way to take personal responsibility for your school community is
to get involved. With so many opportunities to get involved, it might be
tough to figure out how you would be most comfortable participating.

One
way to figure out how to get involved is to think about something that
is already great about your school and come up with a way to make it
even better. |

For example,
if your school has an annul spaghetti dinner fundraiser, think about
how you can make it even more successful. Maybe you and your classmates
could create posters advertising the event to hang
in the
community to increase attendance. Perhaps you could get several families
to donate
cakes for a
cake auction to raise even more money for your school.

Maybe you would prefer to focus on an area of your school that could use
some improvement and work to make it better. It is all too easy to sit back
and complain about what is lacking at the school you attend. It takes a
leader, however, to see where improvements are needed and then do something
about it.
Maybe, for example, you have noticed that the library could use
some new books. Maybe you could work with the librarian to organize
a book sale with proceeds going to towards purchasing new books and reference
materials.
Maybe you could work with some other students to organize a book drive
where people are asked to donate new books to the library.
