Edit 6 Domains

What is it?

Queen Anne's County's Teacher Observation Form contains 6 Sections called Domains. Four Domains are under the Component of "Teaching Skills and Methods" and two Domains are under the Component of "Learning Environment". There are Tabs for all of the Domains shown across the top of the screen.

Why is it useful?
It provides a way to organize the six sections of Queen Anne's County's Teacher Observation Form within Teacher Compass. This way Administrators are not completing long forms. They can complete one short section at a time. If Administrators are interrupted while entering the data (which occurs often), they can come back to the teacher's form, edit it, and complete the rest of the Domains on the form.

How does it work?

Descriptors are areas that an Administrator should observe during a good lesson. The areas relate to the objective listed on QACPS's Teacher Observation Form.

  1. After viewing the Edit an Observation Screen with the list of incomplete and completed Observations, notice that there are two large Buttons for the two Components at the top of the screen -- "Teaching Skills and Methods" and "Learning Environment". There are 4 Domains under the first Component Button and 2 Domains under the second Component section. All 6 Domains must be completed before the Observation is completed.

  2. Click on the "Teaching Skills and Methods" Component Button at the top left corner. Then click on the "Planning and Preparation" Domain Button underneath it. While on the "Planning and Preparation" Domain Screen under the "Teaching Skills and Methods" Component section, the 5 Indicators of Effective Instructions on the Queen Anne's County's Teacher Observation form are listed. Under each Indicator of Effective Instructions, there are "Teacher Compass Descriptors". Administrators can complete one, more than one, or no Descriptors under each objective on QACPS's form.
  3. To change the selection, click on the radio button under the "O" if the Descriptor was observed during the observation time, click on "NI" if the teacher needs to improve in this area, and click on "NO", if the area was not observed during the lesson. Only one of the 3 choices can be chosen for each Descriptor.
  4. To add or to modify Comments relating to an objective, click on the Comment Button. The screen will refresh and will display text boxes under each Indicator of Effective Instructions on that screen. Type specific evidence that relates to the Indicators in the Comments textboxes. This text will be included in the Observation Report (under the View Button) for that day.
  5. After the entire form for this "Planning and Preparation" Screen is completed, click on the "Proceed" Button.
The next Domain Screen for "Knowledge" will appear.
