Scenarios

The following scenarios are meant to serve as examples for individuals
and groups that might benefit from using the Electronic Portfolio.
These hypothetical situations provide a blueprint for how individuals
or groups might make use of the EP's many features.
That said, there are no limits to the potential of the application-any
organization that would like to take advantage of the EP's functionality
will find it indispensable.
- Ms. Donna Simonds is a Resident Teacher working on her Masters
degree while teaching second grade at a school in the Montgomery
County, MD Public School system. Donna wants feedback on an instructional
strategy she is using with her students. Through the EP she has
access to faculty members at her university, fellow students,
colleagues, and supervisors. Using the EP's tools Donna can access
her "educational community" for feedback, and ultimately
evaluate the lesson and determine its appropriateness for user
in her classroom
- The Professional Development Office of the Jefferson County
Public Schools has been investigating the use of portfolios for
its reading specialists. The Electronic Portfolio would provide
the office with a space where the reading specialists could organize,
sort, and select artifacts that they wanted to use formally in
their presentations. Reading specialists would be able to collaborate
and share best practices with the Professional Development Office
as well as with one another.
- The National Council of Mentors (NCM) is a non-profit organization
active in 32 states, with 147 employees and 225,000 members. NCM,
a nationally recognized leader in mentor training, has established
a set of principles against which all of their members are evaluated
for certification. An Electronic Portfolio would allow the organization's
members to store, annotate, organize, and share their exemplary
work. This would increase the organizations knowledge exchange
with members and establish a process by which certification could
be standardized.
