The Alliance for Schools for Thought

Project Homepage:
http://sft.davidson.k12.tn.us

Overview:

The Alliance for "Schools for Thought" (SFT) in Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools is composed of a well-tested partnership of educators, business executives and education advocates, anchored by Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, Vanderbilt University's Peabody College Learning Technology Center (LTC), and the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce.

We are using Challenge Grant resources to address successfully a major problem confronting our school system -- of low levels of academic achievement, especially by students who come from condition of poverty. Our challenge grant focuses on traditional academic needs: the ability to read in order to learn, to write and communicate with clarity, to engage in mathematical and scientific inquiry, and to develop a deep knowledge of history, geography and social studies. In addition to traditional goals, our goal is to help students develop the confidence and ability to collaborate allowing them to become lifelong learners.
