M.A.T. Program Options

AMAT (Accelerated Master of Arts in Teaching)

This option provides early admission for undergraduates. Candidates who meet the criteria for acceptance may take up to 12 credits of the program before completion of the undergraduate degree.

FlexMAT (Flexibly Scheduled Master of Arts in Teaching)
This is a part-time option for candidates who continue their current employment while taking classes. Candidates must terminate their employment for one semester to complete the 20-week teaching internship.

ProMAT (Professional Immersion Master of Arts in Teaching)
This option is offered in partnership with local school systems to provide support and a full masters program for candidates during their first two years of teaching. These alternative options which adapt and apply effective practices from our school immersion model are designed to help meet the teacher shortage. Follow the link to the ProMAT site for further description of existing partnerships.

SIMAT (School Immersion Master of Arts in Teaching)
In this full-time, 13-month option, candidates begin in July combining course work with experience in a summer program for children. During the school year, candidates work in the classroom with a supervising teacher for the entire year while taking course work at night. The final summer, candidates plan and implement a summer program for children and complete their remaining course work.
