School
Immersion Master of Arts in Teaching
The
full-time School Immersion Master of Arts in
teaching program can be completed in 13 months.
The innovative program is centered on a yearlong
internship in a professional development school
(PDS). Similar to teaching hospitals, professional
development schools are selected public schools
with which Hopkins forms partnerships, creating
a community of learners dedicated to enhancing
the personal and professional growth of all
members.
SIMAT
students are placed in the PDS that most closely
matches their personal and professional goals.
Under the guidance of expert classroom teachers
and Hopkins faculty, SIMAT interns focus intensively
on the intellectual and personal development
of youth in an actual school setting. Interns
engage in a variety of PDS activities including
school improvement efforts, applied research
projects, and interactions with business and
community partners.
