Class 2: Looking Inside A Technology Infused Classroom

What we call differentiation is not a recipe for teaching. It is not an instructional strategy. It is not what a teacher does when he or she has time. It is a way of thinking about teaching and learning. It is a philosophy. (Tomlinson, 2000, p. 6-11)

In our first class, we considered effective instruction, differentiation to support effective instruction and the need for rigor for all students. In this class, we will look inside actual classrooms to increase our understanding of differentiation and to determine the role that technology plays in supporting good instruction. Print out a copy of the capture sheet. A capture sheet is an alternative note-taking tool, which allows you to record or depict insights and ideas. Now, using this sheet, record ways in which we have already begun to differentiate for you.

Let's look into some classrooms and begin to identify critical components of differentiation. As you read about the scenarios and view the classroom video examples, think about ways that technology could be used to support effective instruction and differentiation and add your thoughts to your capture sheet.
