CTE Philosophy

CTE adheres to the following principles and assumptions when planning an online course:

  • Develop engaging learning opportunities.

  • Utilize a variety of teaching, learning and assessment pieces.

  • Model what you teach.

  • Proven instructional practices are imbedded in an online environment.

  • Incorporate meaningful assignments with rigor and authentic products that have real professional applications.

  • Employ multiple learning/teaching strategies to accommodate diverse learners.

  • Create a structured cycle of instruction with flexibility to support freedom.

  • All courses are learner centered.

  • Responsibility is upon the instructor and the students.

  • Actual facilitator instruction must happen, not just the push of content.

  • Content delivery must be appropriate to the learning activity.

  • The learning activities must be relevant to the objectives.

  • Multiple forms of varied assessment must be in place on a weekly basis.

  • Assessment and assignments are cumulative in nature, as each week leads to the performance assessment.

  • Online learning is flexible and dynamic in nature, similar to in face-to-face instruction.

  • Teaming and community building are critical to an online environment. *

  • A balance between whole group, team, and individual assignments and activities exists.*
