Creating a Valuable Presence Strategies

Participants are required to create a valuable presence in the class: Since there may be little to no face-to-face interaction with your class, it is your responsibility to create your "persona" online. Being present (by logging in regularly) and contributing to the class is the only way your facilitator and teammates will know you, your thoughts on class readings, and your progress on your coursework. Getting feedback and sharing ideas with your class and facilitator adds necessary traction to your course experience.

TIP

Tips for effectively creating a valuable presence:

Fill out your member profile at the start of your course. Letting people know both who you are in and outside of your course is a great way for them to get acquainted with and remember you.

Take an active role in discussion threads. It's a terrific way to communicate, engage and learn, and certainly helps forge the professional relationships that you may want to keep after the close of your course.

Upload your teamwork (i.e. saved chats) as well as any materials you are creating for the course in your team's designated workspace, even if the materials are not yet completed. It helps your team and facilitator (and when appropriate, your class) to see your progress and innovation, and offer constructive feedback.
