   Welcome!

What do courses have in common with shoes? It's the fit that matters most.

Badly fitting shoes do much more harm than good. They can keep you from getting where you want to go and are usually a complete waste of money. On the other hand (or foot), shoes that offer support, flexibility and overall comfort can take you all sorts of places and be worth the investment. The same is true for courses - especially online courses.

That's why we've designed this tutorial. We want to be clear about our course design and expectations. In addition, it's helpful for you to identify your professional development goals and individual style to see how in sync they are with the online learning platform - so we've included exercises to help you do so. More specifically, as you go through this tutorial you will:

  • Learn about the emerging characteristics and benefits of online learning in professional development
  • Determine your educational objectives, initiatives, and personal learning style
  • Gain knowledge of what you should look for in online courses based on your learning style
  • Decide if various types of online courses suit your needs and professional goals
  • Learn how to register for an online professional development course from the Johns Hopkins Center for Technology in Education

By the end of the tutorial, you will have a comprehensive understanding of CTE's online learner expectations as well as your own so you can confidently decide if online learning is the right fit for you.

Use the buttons on the left to navigate through the tutorial. And remember; if the course fits…take it!
