Your Professional Development: CTE's Online Opportunities

Every learner has different needs and goals for an online instruction experience. CTE believes that an important key to creating effective communities is to offer flexible environments. That is why CTE's online education opportunities exist in a continuum.

CTE offers three distinct formats of online courses:

  • The Fully Facilitated Courses
  • The Self-Paced Courses, and
  • Tutorials.

The formats have varying amounts of interaction and different processes for development. The table below expresses the credit opportunities and the different levels of community interaction in each type of course:

Type of Online Course & Credit Opportunities
Level of Community Interaction

Fully Facilitated Online Courses
(Earn 2-3 MSDE credits
or 3 graduate credits)

High Levels of Interaction: teamwork, facilitator support, interactions with classmates, threaded discussions and chats.

Self-Paced Online Courses
(Earn 1-2 MSDE credits
or 3 graduate credits)

Moderate Levels of Interaction:Initial introduction of facilitator, mid-point benchmark assignment submission and feedback and contact with facilitator at the conclusion of the course.
Tutorials
(Credit is not given for Tutorials)
The only interaction that takes place is between the learner and the material. A facilitator is not present.
