The Maryland Technology Academy includes a two-day Administrator Symposium during which school-based administrators explore ways to bring about change in their instructional technology programs, assisted by their Leadership Program participants (Fellows).
The Administrator Symposium focuses on increasing the ability of administrators to plan for technology integration in their schools and assist them in supporting technology leaders, both within their schools and districts. Research demonstrates that administrative support is essential for successful technology integration to occur. Maryland administrators examine the use of technology to support such initiatives as making data driven decisions for technology use; using state content standards to focus on student achievement; evaluating effective technology integration; and empowering Fellows as leaders. They work with facilitators who have successfully implemented programs in their schools. The emphasis is on impacting student learning and gathering evidence that demonstrates this impact. Attendees participate in guided discussion and hands-on Internet research, in order to ensure that they leave with strategies to implement in their schools. Attendees are encouraged to participate in the Administrator Strand at the MICCA (Maryland Instructional Computer Coordinators Association) conference, as either a presenter or participant. This continues the dialogue and allows administrators to discuss challenges and share successes. For more information about MICCA, visit http://www.miccaonline.org |
