Introduction
More and more we are seeing initiatives that place computer technology into your classrooms, the hope being that they will help to improve instruction and increase student learning.

Up until now, your experience with technology has included taking your students to the computer lab to use drill and practice software and occasionally using the computer in the Media Center to prepare lesson plans and other activities or reports, or to search the internet. You'd love to bring technology into your classroom, but you need HELP in the form of MONEY and TRAINING!! . . . . . . . .

TA DA!!  Your Principal has offered a grant of $10,000 to a deserving teacher who wants to implement technology into his/her classroom.  It seems like a "mission impossible" to you. Nevertheless, your assignment, should you choose to accept it, is to apply for the "in-house grant".

The Task

Good, I'm glad you decided to accept the assignment!!   Your job is to create a presentation that will persuade your Principal to give the Technology Grant of $10,000 to you. You may choose the presentation format you feel comfortable with--written, oral, video, brochure, etc.  Remember, I'll always be here to help you should you need any additional hardware, software, or other resources.

The Process

Your presentation should have two parts:

  1. Your personal Technology Infusion Plan including:
  2. Purchase Orders for hardware, software and other needed resources.
We will share and discuss our presentations during the last two class sessions.   After all presentations have been shared we will vote as a class to award the grant.

A checklist (rubric) has been developed to give you direction.

Step 1: Your Vision

"Unless teachers start out with specific technology goals that support their vision of learning, technology will most likely be used to reinforce the status quo"--(Cohen, 1988; Cuban, 1986)

      1. Research the Technology Vision resource links below.  They will give you an idea of why you should write a technology vision statement and also why it should be connected to the vision you have for learning.
      2. Pair with a partner to discuss the articles you've read.  Decide on three important things that a vision statement for technology should have. When you are finished, add the three ideas  to the Inspiration concept map at the computer connected to the presentation device in the front of the room.  I'll help you!!
      3. For class next week, write your Personal Technology Vision Statement. Since it is personal, you do not have to share it with the rest of the class, but I will be happy to discuss it with you to make sure you're on the right track.

Evaluation

Describe to the learners how their performance will be evaluated. You can link to a separate rubric document from here, or you could briefly summarize your criteria on this page. Also specify whether there will be a common grade for group work vs. individual grades. Make sure the evaluation of your students evaluates the accomplishment of the objectives listed in the lesson.

Conclusion

Put a couple of sentences here that summarize what they will have accomplished or learned by completing this activity or lesson. You might also include some rhetorical questions or additional links to encourage them to extend their thinkcenter>
