Today is the first day of the rest of your life. What do you want to spend your time doing? Are you going to take the time to plan your life or are you going to do whatever comes along? Is money the most important factor in deciding your choice or is spending your time doing something you enjoy the most important factor. Today you will begin your journey toward making one of the biggest decisions in your life.
Utilizing the resources in our school's media center, the public library, and on the Internet, you will research a career of your choice. You will take on the perspective of the employer trying to market his career field to perspective employees.You will develop a job description and a marketing strategy for persuading perspective employees to enter this career field.You will also take the position of a future employee trying to get hired in this career field. You will need an up to date resume that will sell you to the employer.You will need to be ready to answer interview questions concerning why you are the best candidate for this job. You will create a presentation for the class both as the employer and the perspective employee.

- Working individually or with a partner, you will decide on a career to research.
- Using print, electronic, and Internet resources you will research your career choice. You will need to turn in a bibliography of all sources that you use.
- Information you should find on your career will include: a job description, education/training requirements, average salary, future employment expectations, special equipment/dress, and any other pertinent information that will enhance your presentation as employer and employee.
- You will create a resume selling yourself to the employer. Your resume can be an online resume, a powerpoint presentation, a portfolio, or another medium of your choice. When you create the resume, project what your resume will look like when you are 25 years old, assuming that you have completed all training/education requirements for the position.
- You will create a classified ad advertising for perspective employees for this job. The ad can be done as a poster, newspaper ad, an internet posting, or another form of your chosing.
- You will take on the role of the employer and present your job to the class. Remember you are trying to sell this job to your classmates and get the most qualified applicants.
- You will take on the role of the perspective employee and try to sell yourself as the best candidate for this job to your classmates.
You will be doing a self evaluation as well as an evaluation by your instructor using the Careers, Decisions, Careers rubric.
Upon completion of this WebQuest you should:
- Be knowledgable about the different aspects of your career choice, both as the employer and the employee.
- Know how to write a resume.
- Know how to do research in your library and on the Internet.
If you have decided after researching your career that you are no longer interested in this career field, you may go back to the resources and investigate some other careers. After all, this will be one of the most important decisions that you will make in your life.
