INTRODUCTION










 

The teachers at Mustang Elementary need your help. They are  planning class assignments for their students that will require them to use the Internet.  The problem is the teachers need help finding the best web sites for their students assignments.  You have been selected for this mission because you have been identified as an expert in evaluating web sites. If you do not evaluate these web site the students will be left to wonder and search for information all by themselves.  As you know, if these students do not know how to search for information on the Internet, they could be lose forever on the Information Super Highway. SHHHHHH! This is a top secret mission.  The students can't find out that their teachers didn't find these sites.
 
 





THE MISSION

There will be one team (task force) for each subject area. Each (task force) will have four or five agents (members). Each team will evaluate two web sites.  You will evaluate the web sites using Handout #1. The (task force) will select the web site that best meets the need of the teacher's assignment. After the task force has evaluated and selected the best web site they will report to the illustration station.  Each agent will then illustrate a picture of one of the  home pages their task force evaluated.
 
 




THE PROCESS

1. Each agent in the task force will select a code name.  The code name you select will determine what your role will be in the mission. A job description for each code name is included.
 

Agent 1 - Code Name: Mouse pad
Job description:  computer operator

Agent 2 - Code Name: Screen
Job description:  reader of  information

Agent 3 - Code Name: Printer
Job description: recorder/writer of information

Agent 4 - Code Name: Save
Job description:  reporter for the task force

Agent 5 - Code Name: Monitor
Job description:  watcher of the task force

If your task force only has four agents. Eliminate the role of Agent 5.
 

2. Each agent will go to their positions.
Agent Screen will sit next to Agent Mouse pad.
Agent Printer will sit behind Agent Screen.
Agent Save will sit behind Agent Mouse pad.
Agent Monitor can stand or sit between Agent Printer and Agent Mouse pad
 

3. After each agent has selected their role and everyone in position Agent Screen read  the task forces' assignment.  It is located inside of the folder labeled  "TOP SECRET".
 

4. Find your teams resources and begin your mission.

Task Force 1 -  Subject: Social Studies:

Ms. Globe students need to define the word culture.  They also need to name the continent where Russia is located and they must find a recipe that is unique to Russia.

Task Force 2 - Subject: Language Arts

Mr. Inkspot's boys and girls have just finished a unit on multicultural poetry. The students need to find a web site that  will allow them read poetry written from students from other countries.  After they have read  three poems they will submit a poem they have written to this site.

Task Force 3 - Subject: Physical Education

Mr. Gym's  students are learning about the Olympics. The students need information about the Paralymipic.  They need to answer the following questions:

What is the Paralymipic? How is it the same or different from the Olympics? Find three sports that are played in the Paralymipcs that are also played in the Olympics?

Task Force 4 - Subject: Science

Ms. Microscope boys and girls are during a unit on the rain forest.  They need to locate information that will help them answer the following questions:

What is a rain forest?
What are the four levels in the rain forest.
What is a nocturnal animal?
Identify two nocturnal animals.

After completing the Web quest you will have read for information and to complete a task.  You will have demonstrated the ability to review, evaluate, and select information to meet a specific need.
