"Sally", he said,
"It was so cool! I dreamed that I was on the Oregon
Trail! It was such an adventure! I was a pioneer moving
to a new frontier, and I was really excited!"
"Mom and Dad
would only let us bring a few things so that the covered wagon would
not be too heavy during the long trip. I didn't care that I
was only bringing one extra pair of clothes and one toy, but you made a
fuss because you wanted to bring all of your things."
"We took some
dried meat and some of the food we had grown, some blankets and a couple
of pots. We filled our wagon and joined others who were moving
west. Our animals, the cow and horses, walked along beside us.
It was slow going, but there was so much to see!"
"We went through
fields and climbed mountains. We crossed rivers, and
that was hard work. At night, we'd gather around a campfire
and sing or listen to stories
about what the rest of the trip would bring. Finally, one day, Mom
and Dad saw the perfect place for us to build our new home. We were
going to build a log cabin! I couldn't wait! But then,
I woke up."
"I wish that
I was a pioneer from a long time
ago!"
