Hey, I NEED a Car

You are a high school senior who lives in a rural community.
You have recently gotten a job at a prestigious high technology firm 30
miles away. This is very good job, which will give you excellent
experience and preparation for your future. Right now you are borrowing
the family car or your parents need to drop you off and pick you up.
They are often late. You will be clearing $300 per week during the
summer and $200 during the school year. You need to convince your
parents that you are financially capable of purchasing the car, the insurance
and gas. The problem is, your Father wants you to find a used car,
your mother wants you to have a safe car and you want a sports car.

There are many sites on the Internet where you can look find information
on purchasing cars, insurance and procuring financing.. You will
be using: The Kelly Blue Book, Automall,Quotesmith.
Another site is the search engine Infind
where you will need to search for "car buying." You may also choose
to visit local car dealerships, insurance agents and financial institutions.

1. You will need to work in teams of 3 and assign the role of mother,
father and student
2. Once you have picked a role, you need to do research on cars, insurance
and financing, selecting the best one for your
role as outlined in the introduction.
3. You must do a visual presentation, which may be in the form of an
oral argument, paper, graph, chart, spreadsheet,
powerpoint presentation or combinations of

Your final project will be based on the following components:
1. Your rationale for the selection of the car, insurance and financing.
2. Your presentation technique
3. Your participation in the group.

By now you as a group have reached consensus on purchasing a car, procured
financing and obtained insurance information. The process that you
went though in locating information and supporting your decision with a
presentation have given you real, lifelong skills.
