Overview of Tawain's Economy

Taiwan has a dynamic capitalist economy with considerable government guidance of investment and foreign
trade and partial government ownership of some large banks and industrial firms. Taiwan currently ranks as number 13
among major trading countries. Traditional labor-intensive industries are steadily being replaced with more capital- and
technology-intensive industries. Taiwan has become a major investor in China, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines,
Malaysia, and Vietnam. The tightening of labor markets has led to an influx of foreign workers, both legal and illegal.

The success with which the Republic of China has pursued economic development over the last five decades has led many to refer to Taiwan's developmental  experience as an "Economic miracle." The ROC is now one of the world's top 15 trading nations, and  its foreign exchange reserves are amongst the highest in the world.  Today, many high-quality products
with the "Made in Taiwan" label are  recognized around the world. In  general, export-related sectors suchas manufacturing and the information technology industry have performed extremely well.
