Project Summary:
A
PowerPoint, multimedia presentation
incorporating the photographic images from “Eyewitness Books On
Africa” (through scanning) to present information on Tools For Finding Food,
Patterns and Color in Cloth, Female Dress, Men’s Attire, Self Adornment,
Roles and Rituals, Weapons and
Product Resources. |

Objectives/Desired Results (What will the learners understand as a result of this project?) Students
will use word processing software to generate a persuasive letter that
demonstrates an understanding of the history, art, culture and traditions of
the African Peoples. Plans for Facilitation: This piece of the project will be used with small groups of learners after they have read other pertinent facts about African Nomads, the Sahara Desert and the continent as a whole. 1. Students will read three short articles on the life of Nomads in the
Desert. 2. Students will locate Africa on a large world map and an up to date
maps on the internet. 3. Students, with teacher assistance will find more historical
information on Britannica.com, the
best site on Africa. 4. The Teacher will present a PowerPoint, multimedia presentation to
students on African Culture. 5. Students will produce a persuasive letter as a culminating project. |

Type of Assessment Used (e.g. observations, work samples,
electronic discussions, dialogues) Using computers in the
Computer Lab, Students will write a letter to persuade an African cousin to
adopt a more modern way to do things. For example: Wearing more modern
clothes, or using more modern tools for farming. A rubric will be applied to
the student generated letter. |
