Project Summary: This multimedia presentation will introduce the steps in the writing process and provide examples and reasons for using each of the steps. The Writing Process will be compared to a trip to the grocery store and the steps used for a successful grocery shopping trip. This will be a preliminary activity in a year long focus on improving writing skills. It will serve as a base which other academic teachers will use in their classrooms as we attempt to unify our cross curriculum writing efforts.

Objectives/Desired Results (What will the learners understand as a result of this project?)Students will understand that good writing requires thoughtful planning, and revision as well as drafting. Student writing samples will show improvement in organization, (particularly through the use of transitional words and phrases) increased usage of extensions and elaboration, and will contain fewer errors in usage and mechanics. Specifically following this multimedia presentation: Students will be able to state valid reasons for using all the steps in the writing process. Students will be able to list the steps of the writing process in logical order. Students will be able to write a group story utilizing the writing process steps. Students will demonstrate use of the steps on an independent writing activity.
Plans for Facilitation: There will be a whole class multimedia presentation, followed by a class discussion, the creation of a piece of writing by the entire class using "Inspiration" software as a starting point for prewriting. Then small groups will create a piece of writing demonstrating their use of the writing process. Finally, students will independently create poems, which will demonstrate their use of the writing process. |
