Project Summary:

This Power Point presentation will be used as an overview of the a class project.  The project will probably take two weeks to complete.  The slide show displays the various assignments and expectations of student work; such as: the students will read and gather information from a variety of informative text and then, with the teacher, use Inspiration to create a web of the information found.  After gathering and sequencing the information about the first Thanksgiving, in small groups, the students will use KidPix to create a slide show that explains/sequences the events of the first Thanksgiving.  The slide show will be presented to the Pre-Kindergarten class at their Thanksgiving party.

This project is estimated to take two weeks.

Objectives/Desired Results (What will the learners understand as a result of this project?)

The students will be able to:

-Gather relevant information from Gail Gibbons Thanksgiving

-Sequence the events of the first Thanksgiving

-Use KidPix to create a slide show that explains the events of the first Thanksgiving

Plans for Facilitation:

-Day 1:Prior to viewing the slide show, the students and I will complete a KWL chart about Thanksgiving.  We will discuss and record what they already know about Thanksgiving as well as what they want they want to know about Thanksgiving.  We will then do an activity that ties a personal connection to Thanksgiving.

-Day 2:  I will tell the children that I have a friend who needs us to help her solve a problem.  We will then view slide 1-6.  These slides outline the problem and the first steps of the project, gather information.   The students will complete the activities as directed.

-Day 3: I will review the web of information we created then view slide 7 and complete that activity.

-Day 4:  I will review the timeline created in small group sessions, then we will view and discuss slides 8-11.  Afterwards the groups will break up and create a rough draft of their slide.  Not slide 12 is a modification for upper grades that wish to do this project.

-Days 5-12 (Approximate time):  Product Construction and Evaluation

-Day 13:  We will view the completed project and  complete the closing/reflection activity.
