am looking forward to second marking period. I enjoyed meeting all of the
parents and liked having the opportunity to share in your child's progress.
We have a lot to do second marking period. Now that we are settled in and
know the routine, we can get much more done. Below, I have updated some
of the things we will do in the second marking period.

We've just started our second reading for literary experience unit called Community Ties. We will be reading several stories that take place in a community. We will discuss parts of a community we have been learning in Social Studies. Have your child bring a reading book home to share a story with you. |
In social studies, we will continue to use maps and globes. We will learn to read a variety of different maps. We will continue our study of communities and focus on the human and physical features that define a community. Check out the newspaper for some current events. |

In our second science unit we will be studying nutrition. We will learn about the food groups and important nutrients and minerals our bodies need to develop properly. We will also discuss daily hygiene. |
In language arts we are going to learn how to write. We will learn about the different types of sentences and how to organize them into paragraphs. We will also learn how to proofread and edit our work. We will also be learning proper cursive writing. |

In math, we will begin by advancing our subtracting skills. We will learn how to regroup more than once and check our own computations. We will also be learning about the different concepts of geometry and measurement. Don't forget to start memorizing your multiplication facts! |
