A diamonte, or diamond, poem is a usually unrhymed poem that follows a specific grammatical pattern for chosing its words, and the end product usually resembles a diamond.

Here's an anonymous example about a dog:

Dog
Playful, friendly
Barking, wagging, jumping
Companion, playmate, master, friend
Sleeping, purring,; playing
Soft, independent
cat

This is the specific format that a writer would use for a diamonte poem:

topic (noun)
2 describing words (adjectives)
3 action words (“ing” verbs)
2 nouns related to topic noun - 2 nouns related to ending noun
3 action words (“ing” verbs)
2 describing words (adjectives)
ending (noun)

Remember:  Your rubric for your poem stresses your incorporation of imagery and the poem's communication of why the book Night has its title.
