Purpose:

The purpose of this WebQuest is to collect information create a poster presentation to detail one way the Chesapeake Bay is used as a resource.  After completing the WebQuest and follow-up activities, you will have completed the following objectives:

Content Objectives:

• Identify the characteristics of an estuary. (8.1)
• Give examples of several resources within the Chesapeake Bay. (8.10)
• Identify the economic importance of the striped bass and other Bay organisms (8.14)

Essential Questions:

• What resources in the Chesapeake Bay are depleting and why?
• How has human influence changed the Chesapeake Bay over time?
• How have science and technology changed the way the view the Bay as a resource?

Introduction:

The Chesapekae Bay is one of the largest estuaries in the world.  Aside from its aesthetic value, the Bay has been used as a resource for millions of organisms, especially humans, since it was formed over 10,000 years ago.

The Maryland General Assembly is assessing the health of the Chesapeake Bay.  You are an environmental consultant reporting
