| The native peoples of our continent were here for thousands of years before Europeans even knew that the continent called North America existed. Who were these people, what were they like? Were they a single nation like we are? Most importantly, what effect did Europeans have on their culture? Let's find out... | ![]() |

Using the resources below, you will have the opportunity
to find information on the different culture groups found in the United
States. Find maps, images, legends, first-hand accounts, and much
more to develop an understanding of your culture. Explore and see
what happens when Europeans enter the picture. Create a PowerPoint
presentation to share your newfound knowledge with your friends and answer
the following question:
How did European Exploration effect the Cultures of Native Americans? |
| Follow these steps to become a part of your favorite
Native American Culture:
1. You will be assigned to a team of 5-6 students. 2. Each person in your group will choose one of the five topics to research: (a) Food Source (team leader), (b) Clothing, (c) Geography, (d) Shelter, (e) Effects of Exploration. Individual Graphic Organizer. All members of your team are responsible for finding one fact that is not covered by the above five. 3. Your team leader will draw a number to see which Culture Area your team will explore. 4. After you find out which culture is yours, head to a computer and use the following links to start your exploration: 5. As you are searching, use your graphic organizer to take notes on and save any images you may find. (Remember to save your work often and remember copyright rules!)6. When you finish your research, return to your group and discuss your findings. 7. As a group, create, using your group graphic organizer, and present a PowerPoint show with a minimum of 6 slides and a maximum of 10 slides describing your Culture and the effect European Exploration had on it. (The presentations will take place in the classroom over the next 2 classes) 8. When all shows are completed, answer the question:

| Now that your quest is complete, you learned that
the Native Americans were not all the same. Many different cultures
existed in this land before the arrival of Columbus. The knowledge
of what became of these cultures and how that happened gives you perspective
on how it is for people who are having their way of life changed today.
