Charlie Chaplin
Charlie Chaplin came to America as an English immigrant with a traveling improvisation and character group. While in this group he developed a number of characters, one in which he called, The Tramp. The Tramp was a mixture of a clown and a Gentleman, with big, baggy pants, floppy black shoes, a bam-boo cain, and a top hat. To almost everyone, The Tramp, was absolutely hilarious, and it was because of this reaction that Charlie Chaplin was discovered in America. Also during his time in Show Biz,Charlie Chaplin was recognized for his unique talents and unorthodox methods, but he is most credited for developing the acting style of tragic comedy. If anyone watches his films, it is blatantly obvious that the most humorous parts are when something bad happens to him. For example, in the movie, The Circus, monkeys climb all over him while he is trying to balance himself on the high wire. Now for the character this is frightening, but for the audience it is positively jocular.
