Have you noticed as you are reading A Farewell to Arms that the characters often say amazing, extremely significant things? As you read, copy some of the more significant quotes and take notes to help you remember who is speaking, other characters involved, and details about the situation.
***After you have finished reading 10 chapters, you can complete this project.
1.
Choose 5 significant quotes from at least 5 different chapters
2.
Write a 1/2 page reaction to each
3.
Write the complete quote, and page number at the top
4.
In one sentence include the speaker, the listener(s) and what's going on
Your other 8-10 sentences should include your reaction to what is said
5.
Begin your reaction with a phrase that expresses your opinion. Here
are a few examples, but feel free to choose your own:
I agree I disagree I like
or I don't like
6.
Type all your work
Here's an
example from Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird to get you started.
"You never really understand a person until you consider things from his
point of view-until you climb into his skin and walk around in it"(30)
Atticus gives this piece of advice to Scout as he counsels her on how to understand people and what makes them react the way they do. I agree with Atticus ... Now, I could talk about :
jumping
to conclusions
prejudging
people
getting
to know the real person
a real-life
situation where this has occurred
being sympathetic
to others
and develop
a strong argument to support my opinion.
