THE MAYCOMB TRIBUNE:  A Webquest

As we begin our study of Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird, it is essential that we have an understanding of its setting. This requires much more than basic knowledge of the facts of the south in the 1930's. We need to know the people. We need to understand the routines and patterns which made up their daily lives. We need to see the streets upon which they walked and the venues where the mobs would take in a lynching. In short, we need to become a participant as well as an observer.

You are about to take those steps toward stepping beyond your role as a 20th century student and into the understanding of an inhabitant of the fictitious town of Maycomb, Alabama in the early 1930's. Your charge will be to create the newspaper of the day from the perspective of the community.
