Double Entry Journals

1. A double entry journal is made by folding a piece of 8 ½ x 11 paper in half-
lengthwise.

2. On the left half of the paper, you quote a sentence from the article. (It does
not have to be a quote from the article: You are quoting the article.)

3. On the right half of the paper beside the quote, you write a reflection on
how you feel about the quote.

Examples might include:
"This surprises me because......"
"This reminds me of....."
"I never knew...."
"This bothers me because..."

4. When doing a double entry journal for science class, you will need to follow
the rules below:

       A. Your article must be at least 3 paragraphs in length.
       B. You must quote 5 sentences from the article and 5 reflections, one
reflection for each quote. Reflections must be in the form of a sentence
that is a minimum of 5 words.

5. You must attach the article to your double entry journal. Please cut it out
before you come to class, not during class.

6. Your article must be about one of the areas of Earth Science. (Click on the Word Earth Science to find out about the areas of Earth Science)
