Window's Explorer
Directions about Window’s Explorer
can be found on p. 88-89 of your book.
Before we can play with Window’s
Explorer
-
Create a folder on you’re A drive
and place some files in it.

From the Desk Top
-
Double Click on My computer
-
Single Click on 3 ½ Floppy
A:
-
Right Click somewhere in the window
-
Select New and then folder
-
Right Click on the New Folder
-
Select Rename
-
Rename the folder “My Junk”
-
Now click on one of the files that
you have created in the last few weeks and click and drag it into the folder
-
If you do not have any files on the
floppy disk, you will have to create a file in wordpad and save it to A
If latter on you decide that you do
not want the folder and you can no longer undo the move, you can go into
windows explorer
Window’s Explorer
On the start menu go to programs
-
Go to windows explorer
-
The left side of the window lists
the contents of the drives and folders on the hard drive and any other
drives connected to the computer
-
The right side displays the folders
and files in the selected folder or drive on the left.
-
Any folder with a plus sign in front
of it contains more folders and files
-
There should be a plus sign beside
the a drive
-
Click on the + sign beside the A drive.
-
The + sign will turn into a – sign
and……
-
The My Junk folder should appear….
Along with any other folder that is on your A drive
-
Click it again and the + sign will
reapear.
-
If you double click on the icon to
the right of the + sign, everything on the A drive appears on the right.
-
Now double click on the C drive and
notice that everything on the C drive will appear on the right.
-
If you want to look at what is on the
C drive and then see what folders are on the A drive on the left while
still looking at what is on the C drive on the right…..
-
Click on the + sign beside the Drive
A: This allows you to move stuff from the C drive to the My stuff folder.
-
On the Left….Double click on the icon
beside the + sign beside the A drive.
-
To look in the folder. Double click
on the My junk folder on the right half of the screen.
-
To move the files out of the
“My Junk” folder
-
Click on the file that you want to
move on the right half of the screen.
-
While holding down the mouse button,
drag the file over to the left and place it into the 3 ½ floppy
drive. You will know that you are in the right place because the word 3
½ floppy will be highlighted on the left.
-
You can move more than one file at
a time by clicking on one file and holding down the shift key and selecting
another file below or above the file. You can also use the control key
to select folders that are not next to each other.

You have now moved everything out of
the folder.
Now lets move the files back
into the folder from here
-
Double click on the icon beside the
+ sign beside the A drive.
-
All of the files should appear on the
right side of the window.
-
On the right side of the window select
the files that you want to move by clicking on them.
-
Now click and drag the files to the
left side of the screen. Only this time select the My Junk folder
-
Now double click on the My Junk folder
on the left side of the window
-
The files that you moved into the Folder
should appear on the right half of the screen.
-
You can also just click and drag the
files that are on the right half of the screen and dragging them into the
My Junk folder on the right half of the screen
