Windows Class #4 Creating Folders
Creating some files
Open up Word pad by clicking the
start button.
Go up to Programs
Go to Accessories
Select Word pad by clicking on
it
Type what you did today in the window.
Keep it short.
Select Save As from the File Menu.
Click on the down arrow to the
right of Save in:
Select 3 ½ Floppy A:
Name the document October 12
Repeat the same process above
Type what you did yesterday in
the window. Keep it short
If you don’t feel like typing new
stuff, this would be a good time to practice copying and pasting from one
document to another.
You can open your old document
on with your new one and copy the text
Select Save As from the File Menu.
Save to the 3 ½ Floppy A:
Name the document October 11
Repeat the same process above
Type what you want to do tomorrow.
Keep it short
Select Save As from the File Menu.
Save to the 3 ½ Floppy A:
Name the document October 13
Now you should have at least 3 files on your A drive.
Close the WordPad Program.
Looking at the 3 1/2 floppy
Double Click on My Computer
Double Click on 3 ½ Floppy
A:
Lets check how much space we have
left on the A disk before we go on.
We should have single clicked instead
of double clicked
Easy enough…. Single click on the
Up icon at the top.
How much space to you have left
on your floppy A??????
Now single Click on the 3 ½
Floppy A:
Is it time to get a new disk??
Now double click on the Floppy A:
You should see the 3 files that
you just created.
Creating a Folder
Now lets create a folder to put
those files in.
From the File menu above
Select New and then folder
Naming the Folder
If you accidentally double click, You can hit the up icon at the top.
You decide that you don’t like that
name.
Do the same thing that you did
above and name the folder “October”
Moving Files into the Folder
Now you are going to move the files that you created into the folder.
You can do this several ways.
Select the file that you want to
move and drag it into the folder.
Do this with the other 2 files
To remove the files
Click Undo Move on the Edit Menu
Do this until all of the files are back where they were.
You can select multiple files that
are next to each other
Single Click on the first file
Hold down the shift key
Single Click on the other files
They should now all be highlighted
Now single click on one of the files and drag them all into the folder
To remove the files
Click Undo Move on the Edit Menu
Now if you just want some of the
files but not the others
Single Click on the file that you
want
Hold down the Control Key
Click on one of the other files
that you want to put into the folder
Drag them into the folder
Warning!!!! Your book says that you can undelete a File or Folder by going to the Recycle Bin and Clicking on the Folder and then clicking on Restore. This only works if the file was originally in your My Documents Folder. It does not work if it was deleted from your Disk
