Linking a web site to
your web page
In order for your students to access the web sites listed on your Topic Hotlist, they must be linked to the actual web site on the internet.  This can be done by the "Cut and Paste" technique.  Follow the directions on the "Cut and Paste" page.
 

Directions:
1. Select a site that you want.
2. Look in the Location Bar where the URL address of the site is located.  Highlight this address. The entire address should be blue: http://www.janbrett.com/
3.  Go to Edit in the menu Bar and click on copy.
4.  Minimize and or close the site.  Click on the - or X in the upper right hand corner of the menu bar.
5.  Open your Personal Web Page located on your disk.
6.  On your web page, place your cursor where you want the link to be located.  Name the link. EX Jan Brett's Page.
7. Highlight the name.
8.  Click on Link in the tool bar.  The link screen will come up.  The cursor should be in the Link to box.  Paste the address in this box [Ctrl + V] or right click.  Click OK.  You should see the name of your site highlighted in blue and underlined.
9.  Go to Review in the tool bar. You should a little hand/finger when you place the cursor on  your site name.  Click on this link. You should go directly to the linked site.
10.  Practice on other sites until you feel comfortable with this activity.  These sites can be "unlinked" from you Topic Hotlist page later.
 

Note:  You will be working in Netscape Composer and Netscape Communicator.  You will need to watch the title bar of your program.
Use Netscape Composer to work on your document and link to other sources. For a more in-depth explanation of Netscape Composer, click on  Help in the menu bar.
Use Netscape Navigator [Preview] in the tool bar to activate the links.
