You will be researching the culture of one of four Native American tribes. You will describe how environment effects culture by writing to inform classmates about the characteristics of that culture. Consider the following essential question.
Mrs. Arnold's mother needs your help in identifying how the artifacts
she has found on her property reflect the culture of a Native American
tribe that resided in Baltimore County. You will research another Native
American tribe and compose a multiparagraph report informing classmates
about the cultural characteristics of that Native American tribe. As an
expert you will then combine with other experts of your tribe to create
a multimedia interactive game to teach younger students about Native American
culture.
1. Choose a Native American tribe from the hot
topic list.
2. Read the definition of culture.

V Concluding Sentences
5. You will be taking notes on each of the subheadings for your selected Indian tribe. Tips for taking notes: be specific. Remember you will have to use at least three examples to include in your paragraphs.
6. Now that you have researched about your native American tribe you will take your notes in your outline to create your multiparagraph report on how environment effects culture. Refer to the MSPAP Writing to Inform Rubric to make sure you include all of the pieces for a good paper.
7. Once you have written a rough draft you need to pair with another student to Praise, Question, Polish. As a good friend, you need to offer positive comments, ideas you did not understand, and what you would do to improve the paper. Print the document and write your comments to share with your partner.
8. With suggestions in hand you will compose your final draft of your multi-paragraph report in Microsoft Word.
9. At this point you will consult with other students that researched
the same Native American tribe. You will create a multimedia game in PowerPoint
for younger students to inform them about the Native American culture you
researched. Check the multimedia rubric to
make sure you are on target with your game.

Conclusion
After
completing these activities you will have researched one Native American
culture to identify the cultural characteristics of that tribe. You
will be able to share that information in the form of a multiparagraph
informing your classmates about the Native American tribe. You will
use your skills to create a PowerPoint informing younger students about
the Native American tribe. You are now an expert on identifying the characteristics
of a Native American tribe you will be able to help Mrs. Arnold identify
her artifacts.
